This beautiful brocade was originally woven for Köthen Castle in Germany sometime in the early 18th century. It is a thick jacquard-woven with mulberry silk in the warp and linen in the weft. The original fabric is hand-woven and 52 cm wide and sits on the walls of the hall where Johann Sebastian Bach worked and made music from 1717-1723.
This fabric is machine woven and two lengths have been woven next to each other, which is why it looks like city borders in the middle of the fabric.
